Frequently asked questions
Tan Care
24-48 Hours Before Your Appointment
- Exfoliate
Exfoliation is key for even, long-lasting results. It removes dead skin cells, ensuring the tan absorbs evenly. Focus on dry areas such as elbows, knees, ankles, and hands. Use a dry brush or exfoliating glove, followed by a gentle, non-oil-based cleanser. Remove any self-tanner or old spray tan residue for the best base. - Shave
Shave at least 24 hours before your appointment. Shaving removes a layer of skin, which may cause uneven results if done too close to your tan. Avoid shaving or showering immediately before your appointment—if you must shower, use lukewarm water to avoid opening your pores. - Waxing
If you plan to wax, do so at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. This gives your skin time to heal and ensures your pores are closed. - Moisturize
After exfoliating and shaving, hydrate your skin with a light, non-oily moisturizer. This will help ensure smooth, even application. Avoid heavy oils, serums, or deodorants as they can interfere with the tan.
- Avoid: Makeup, deodorant, perfume, and lotions.
- Wear: Loose-fitting, dark-colored clothes (oversized sweatpants and flip-flops are ideal).
- Remove: Jewelry and any tight clothing.
- What We Provide: Hairnets, disposable underwear & bras, feet protectors, and barrier cream for hands & nails.
First Shower
- Wait to Rinse
Please shower at the time your spray tan artist advises you to after your appointment. Your tan will continue developing during this time. - Shower with Lukewarm Water
Use lukewarm water only and avoid scrubbing with loofahs or soaps. The purpose of this shower is to wash off excess bronzer, not to cleanse your skin. Do not use soap or shampoo on your first rinse. - Pat Dry
After your shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing, as it can cause streaks or uneven fading. - Moisturize
After your first shower, begin moisturizing daily with an oil-free moisturizer. Hydrated skin will help your tan last longer and fade evenly. Wait at least 24 hours before using other body lotions or deodorants.
Here is the best way to maintain your tan:
- Avoid long, hot showers and baths as they can fade your tan more quickly.
- Pat your skin dry with a towel after bathing, rather than rubbing, to avoid rubbing off the solution.
- Exfoliate your skin gently with a non-abrasive exfoliant a few days after your session to help maintain an even tan.
Spray Tan Tips
- Book All Beauty Appointments Before Your Tan
Schedule any beauty treatments, such as manicures or pedicures, before your spray tan. If they must be done afterward, avoid soaking your hands or legs in water to prevent the tan from fading unevenly. - Avoid Touching Your Skin Post-Tan
Try not to touch your skin until after your first rinse. If you accidentally touch your skin and notice a mark, don't worry—small imperfections should rinse away with the first shower. - Shave 24 Hours Before Your Appointment
Shave at least 24 hours before your appointment using a new razor and rinse with cold water. This helps prevent irritation and the "itchy" or "speckled" look. Avoid hot water before your appointment, as it can open your pores and affect the tan.
- Avoid Products and Deodorants for 24 Hours
For the first 24 hours after your spray tan, avoid using lotions, deodorants, perfumes, or any other products (including Tantucket products). Your tan continues to develop during this time, and applying products can interfere with the process. - Avoid Swimming, Saunas, Hot Showers, and Exfoliating
For a long-lasting tan, avoid swimming, hot showers, saunas, and exfoliating for at least 24 hours. These activities can cause the tan to fade prematurely or develop unevenly. - Avoid Tight Clothing
After your tan, wear loose-fitting clothing like sweatpants or loose dresses to prevent imprints on your skin. Tight clothing can disturb the tan and leave marks. - Avoid Excessive Water & Sweat
For the first 24 hours, refrain from swimming, sweating, or getting excessively wet. Activities like exercising or sitting in a sauna can affect your tan’s development.
